Minister Dolores Arssenova met Mr. Mark Day, representative of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Bird Life International

On 17 November 2004, the Minister of Environment and Water Mrs. Dolores Arssenova met Mr. Mark Day, representative of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Bird Life International. The meeting was within the framework of a two-day working visit of Mr. Day in connection to the establishment of the European Environmental Network NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria. The meeting was organised through the mediation of the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds, which was represented by Mr. Boris Barov, executive director, and Mrs. Irina Kostadinova, NATURA 2000 officer. The meeting was attended also by Mr. Hristo Bozhinov, Director of the National Nature Protection Service and experts from the Ministry of Environment and Water. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the progress of Bulgaria in the establishment of a protected areas network with habitats of birds within the framework of NATURA 2000. By May 2005 the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds should elaborate and present a list with the habitats of birds in Bulgaria and by the end of 2006 the list should be officially approved and become part of NATURA 2000. The realisation of this project is supported financially by the Bird Life International, the Dutch Government, the Ramsar Convention, the Royal Society for the Protection of birds, Phare Programme, etc.
