Emil Dimitrov

Emil Dimitrov was born on 20.02.1962 in Pernik. In 1992 he graduated from the Karl Marx Higher Institute of Economics with a Master's Degree in Economics.

In 1999 he graduated from the University of National and World Economy, with a Master’s Degree in finance and accounting.

He is also a graduate of the Southwestern University "Neofit Rilski" with a Master's Degree in Law from 2007.

In 2008 he acquired legal capacity under Art. 163 of the Judiciary Act before the Ministry of Justice.

He is Certified Forensic Accounting Expert at the Ministry of Justice.

Dimitrov is a registered Internal Auditor in the public sector with the Ministry of Finance.

He is a member of the Gabrovo Bar Association.

Until 1992 he worked in construction, in communications, and as a lecturer. 

In 1992, he joined the Territorial Administration in Sofia, and later on was reassigned to the General Directorate of Public and Financial Control at the Ministry of Finance. He subsequently held the following positions: Financial Auditor, Chief Financial Auditor, Financial Expert and Chief Financial Expert. 

In the period 2001-2002 he was Director of the Customs Agency. During the period 2003-2012 he worked as a financial controller and deputy director of "Financial, Legal and Administrative Activities" in the structures of the Ministry of Culture, as well as a legal advisor within the structures of the Notary Chamber. 

In 2013 he was appointed Secretary General of the Regional Administration of Pleven, as an employee of the Council of Ministers.

In 2014, he was elected Member of Parliament in the 43rd National Assembly, Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Budgets and Finance, and member of the Committee on Legal Affairs. He was also Member of the Subcommittee on Public Finance and other temporary committees. 

In 2017, he was elected Member of Parliament in the 44th National Assembly, and served as a member of several temporary committees, the Legal Affairs Committee, and as Chairman of the Commiittee for oversight of revenue agencies and counteracting the grey economy and smuggling.

On 15.01.2020 he was voted in office by the 44th National Assembly as Minister of Environment and Water.
