  • The dates for the events are 1st October in Sevlievo on the central town square, 7th October in Troyan in front of the Tourist Information Centre, 20th October in the village of Anton on the central square and 21st October in Karlovo in front of primary school “Vasil Levski – 1861”.

Local artisans, producers of traditional products, and artists will take part in various events in October in the municipalities bordering the Central Balkan National Park - Troyan, Sevlievo, Pavel Banya, Karlovo, and Anton. Their territories are located in the transition zone of the Central Balkan Biosphere Park and take 80.56% of its total area.

The initiative “Partners of the Central Balkan Biosphere Park” includes various events - demonstrations of crafts and tasting of local products, eco-activities for children, a discussion panel on good practices for sustainable development of territories, a photo exhibition. An information stand was also organized for the two UNESCO honored sites in the region - the “Central Balkan” Biosphere Park and the beech forests of the National Park, which are included in a series of the UNESCO world heritage sites.

Participants in the partner network are creators, craftsmen, entrepreneurs, producers, providers of tourist services, workers in cultural institutions - all are registered and implement their activities on the territory of the Biosphere Park in the lands of the municipalities of the transition zone.

The dates for the events are: 1st October in Sevlievo on the central town square; 7th October in Troyan in front of the Tourist Information Centre; 20th October in the Anton village on the central square; and 21st October in Karlovo in front of primary school “Vasil Levski – 1861”. The events are organized by the Directorate of the National Park “Central Balkan”, jointly with the municipalities.

The aim is to demonstrate and encourage the implementation of sustainable practices ensuring the economic development of the municipalities bordering the park while protecting nature, to support cultural initiatives, regional tourism products and environmentally friendly agricultural practices, as well as to improve the understanding for the importance of ecosystem services in the region.

“Central Balkan” is one of the four Bulgarian Biosphere Parks (together with “Chervenata Stena”, “Srebarna”, and “Uzunbudzhak”) designated in 2017 under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme. In addition to strict protection zones, modern biosphere reserves also have “buffer” zones and “transition” zones, where sustainable commercial practices  are encouraged based on ecosystem services and the benefits of proximity to the protected area.
