As of May 26, 2026, the total volume of water stored in complex and significant dams is 5314.6 million cubic meters, amounting to 81.31% of their total capacity. Thirty-two of the country’s 52 major and significant dams are at more than 80% full.

The “Kamchia” and “Alexander Stamboliyski” dams are at 100% capacity, while the “Srechenska Bar,” “Hristo Smirnenski,” “Yovkovtsi,” “Ticha,” “Yasna Polyana,” “Asenovets,” “Borovitsa,” “Studena,” “Sopot,” “Domlyan,” “Pchelina,” “Koprinka,” “Vacha,” “Krichim,” “Kardzhali,” and “Ivaylovgrad” at over 90%. The “Kamchia,” “Pchelina,” “Alexander Stamboliyski,” and “Pancharevo” dams are overflowing.

In connection with the onset of spring and the expected high water levels, the companies managing the complex and major dams are taking measures, as necessary, to ensure available capacity by preemptively releasing water to accommodate the increased inflow and maintain water levels within optimal limits.

According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology, showers and thunderstorms are expected in some areas today and tomorrow afternoon. There will also be conditions conducive to hailstorms. On Thursday and Friday, brief showers accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in many parts of the country. Precipitation amounts will range from 5 to 15 mm, with up to 25-40 mm locally in certain areas of the Central and Eastern Pre-Balkans. The weekend will be sunny and warmer.

Today (May 26) and tomorrow, river levels will drop or remain largely unchanged. On May 28, river levels are expected to rise as a result of the rainfall. Water levels will remain below the warning thresholds.

The Ministry of Environment and Water reminds local authorities to implement the measures outlined in the 2022–2027 Flood Risk Management Plans and to monitor the latest hydrometeorological information and forecasts for hazardous events, published on the ministry’s official website.
