A century-old small-leaved elm in the village of Kovachevo was declared protected

The Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev declared protected a century-old small-leaved elm (Ulmus minor) in the village of Kovachevo, Municipality of Radnevo, Stara Zagora district. The tree is over 100 years old, with a height of over 20 meters and a trunk circumference of 2.96 meters.

By order of the Minister, the uprooting, felling, pruning, breaking of branches, injury to the stem, and any other actions that would lead to the destruction, damage, or deterioration of the physiological condition of the tree are prohibited. The tree will be recorded in the registers in accord with the requirements of the Biodiversity Act and marked as a century-old tree.

Timely and organized protection of trees in urban areas is among MOEW priorities and aims to raise public awareness and ensure institutional care for the protection of the green environment in residential areas in the country.
