A mobile team of the Environmental Executive Agency will monitor air quality in the area of the village of Kalotina after a freight train carrying ammonia derailed in the Eastern Serbia region today.

The experts will monitor air quality indicators with a mobile automatic measuring station, which will be set up today near the border crossing point and will remain there in the next days.

The Bulgarian environmental control authorities are in communication with their Serbian counterparts.

The Serbian environmental authority has informed that no violations of air quality standards were recorded. They will inform the Bulgarian authorities if a change in the situation is reported on Serbian territory.

The data from the measurements will be disclosed additionally.

The train accident took place in proximity to the Nishava River, which springs under Mount Kom in the Berkovski Mountain. Given the direction of the river’s flow, pollution by its waters on Bulgarian territory is not expected.
