By order of the Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov two new centuries-old trees have been declared protected. Both are approximately 300 years old.
One of them is of the species Blagun (Quercus frainetjo), located in the "Gyuneta" area in the land of the village of Kazak, Ivaylovgrad Municipality, Haskovo Region and has a trunk circumference of 4.80 m. and a height of about 11 m. The proposal for declaring the tree is by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
The second is of the species Cer (Quercus cerris), located in the "Kairaka" area in the land of the village of Gorski Izvor, Dimitrovgrad Municipality, Haskovo Region and has a trunk circumference of 3.90 m. and a height of about 15 m. The proposal for declaring it came from the private owner of the property on which it is located.
The declaration of the two trees as protected prohibits to uproot, cut down, prune, break branches, injure the stems and any other actions that would lead to the destruction, damage or deterioration of the physiological condition of the trees.
The order is to be published in the State Gazette, after which the trees will be entered in the registers according to the requirements of the Biodiversity Act and designated as centuries-old trees.
At present, 2403 century-old trees have been entered in the registers under the Biodiversity Act, and since the beginning of this year alone, 10 centuries-old trees have been declared protected.
The preservation of centuries-old or remarkable trees through their timely protection is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Environment and Water. A large part of these trees, distinguished by remarkable shapes and sizes that withstood time and natural elements, have been preserved thanks to the commitment and awareness of local communities.
