The Government approved the intention by the Republic of Bulgaria to join the International Climate Action Program (IPAC) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The decision authorizes the Minister of Environment and Water to sign and send to the OECD Secretary General an application for accession.

IPAC monitors and evaluates climate policies, facilitates the exchange of good practices, and plans activities to measure the progress of individual stakeholders in achieving their goals. The program complements and supports existing climate aspirations, such as the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

It is envisaged that the Program will make country-specific recommendations to provide targeted advice on country-specific policies. This would allow IPAC to take into account the specific factors and challenges in Bulgaria and possibly to reflect more clearly the challenges facing our country in achieving the green transition.

With the accession of Bulgaria to IPAC, our country will send a positive signal to OECD  member states, it will demonstrate perseverance, commitment, and consistent efforts for full membership in the OECD.
