  • Management companies are taking measures to ensure free volumes through preventive release of water masses

As of 06.04.2026, the amount of available stored volumes in complex and significant dams is 5231.9 million cubic meters, which amounts to 80.05% of their total volume. The total stored volume is approximately 5% higher than the one reported at the beginning of March.

The dams "Hristo Smirnenski", "Kamchia", "Yasna Polyana", "Asenovets", "Pchelina", "Alexander Stamboliyski", and "Ivaylovgrad" are 100% full, and the dams "Srechenska Bara", "Yovkovtsi", "Ticha", "Borovitsa", "Studena", "Zhrebchevo", "Domlyan", "Krichim", and "Kardzhali" - at over 90%. The dams "Hristo Smirnenski", "Kamchia", "Yasna Polyana", "Asenovets", "Pchelina", "Alexander Stamboliyski", "Ivaylovgrad", and "Pancharevo" are overflowing.

With the onset of the spring season and the expected high water, if necessary, the companies managing the complex and significant dams will be taking measures to ensure free volume capacity through preventive release of water masses in order to absorb the increased inflow and maintain the levels within optimal limits.

According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), today and tomorrow before noon there will be almost no precipitation. In the afternoon hours of 07.04, short-term precipitation is expected - mainly in the Rhodope Mountains with thunderstorms, and light rain is possible on the Northern Black Sea coast in the morning. In the period of 8–13 April it will remain mostly cloudy, rain is expected, with significant amounts in some places, there will be snowfall in some Northern and mountainous regions. On Sunday and Monday the rain will stop gradually, the cloudiness will decrease and warming will begin.

Today (06.04) and over the next three days the water levels of rivers will tend to decrease. As a result of snowmelt in the afternoon and evening hours today and tomorrow (07.04), short-term increases in river levels are possible in the mountainous parts of the river basins. The water levels will be below the warning thresholds.

The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) reminds local authorities to implement the measures envisaged in the Flood Risk Management Plans 2022 - 2027 and to monitor the current hydrometeorological information and forecasts published on the official website of the ministry for hazardous phenomena.

The MOEW manages water resources in 52 significant and complex dams.
