The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva met with representatives of industry associations to discuss recycling of packaging and the possibilities of introducing the deposit system in Bulgaria.

“For Bulgaria, it is important to attain the recycling goals set for EU countries, and reduce landfilling accordingly. The introduction of the deposit system is a step in this direction,” said Deputy Minister Koleva. Meeting participants discussed the criteria for choosing the most effective model for introducing the deposit system, taking into account the interests of all interested parties. Attention was also paid to the so-called “roadmap” for the realistic timeline for the introduction of the deposit system at the national level.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Bulgarian Industrial Association, the Association of Soft Drinks Producers, the Union of Brewers, the Bulgarian Recovery and Recycling Association, the Association for Modern Trade, and the Sectoral Accociation “Polymers”, as well as experts from the “Waste Management and Soil Protection” Directorate at the Ministry of Environment and Water.

All participants agreed once again to continue the joint efforts for the introduction of the deposit system in Bulgaria.
