Today, the first exploratory inspections were carried out in the field to secure and protect the Baykusheva Mura in relation with the identified breakage of a branch of the tree. Arborists carried out an inspection of the century-old tree and nearby trees.

The possibilities of using different methods to secure the broken branch were considered, such as lifting and moving it using a rope system or fortifying the site of breakage. The strength of the branches and trees to be used as control points in the relocation was explored.

The experts specified the way to inspect the tree in more detail. Analysis of the results of today’s preliminary inspection will provide a clear assessment of the situation and help determine the final course of action.

In April, the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova inspected on site the condition of this oldest coniferous century-old tree in Bulgaria and ordered to proceed with concrete actions to protect the Baykusheva Mura. The Pirin National Park Directorate reminds that tourist access to the site remains restricted until the tree is fully secured.
