Four century-old oak trees have been declared under protection
02 Sep, 2025 | 15:08By his order, the Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov declared under protection four century-old trees of the Quercus robur species.
One of them is approximately 500 years old, with a trunk circumference of 5.50 m. It is located in the land of the village of Staro Zhelezare, Hisarya Municipality, Plovdiv Region, and the proposal for the declaration was submitted by the Mayor of Hisarya Municipality.
The other three century-old trees included in the Minister's order are located in the land of the village of Terziysko, Troyan Municipality, Lovech Region, and the proposal for their declaration was submitted by the Mayor of Troyan Municipality. All three are approximately 100 years old, with trunk circumferences of 4.70, 5.10 and 4.20 m respectively.
The declaration of the four trees as protected prohibits the uprooting, felling, pruning, breaking of the branches, injuring the trunks and any other actions that would lead to the destruction, damage or deterioration of the physiological condition of the trees.
The order is to be published in the State Gazette, after which the trees will be entered in the registers according to the requirements of the Biodiversity Act and designated as century-old trees.
The preservation of century-old or remarkable trees through their timely protection is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Environment and Water. A large part of these trees, distinguished by remarkable shapes and sizes, withstood time and natural elements, have been preserved thanks to the commitment and public awareness of local communities.
