Government report in the environmental sector
02 Jan, 2025 | 11:00The requirements for Bulgaria's accession to the Environment section of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) were met.
The updated River Basin Management Plans for the four water basin regions - Danube, Black Sea, East Aegean, and West Aegean, as well as the Marine Strategy of Bulgaria for the period 2022-2027 were adopted by the Council of Ministers. This is required from Bulgaria under two European directives, whereby infringement procedures have been launched, and provides a reliable tool for protecting green health and the environment for local communities and investors, through which to plan the sustainable development of their activities.
An order was issued to declare a protected area for the protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna "Maritsa River". In order to prevent damage to types of natural habitats and habitats of animal and plant species, orders were issued to change the regimes of two protected areas - "Kaliakra Complex" for the protection of natural habitats and wild flora and fauna and "Kaliakra" for the protection of wild birds. Orders were also issued to declare seven protected areas - protected areas "Arvaliyka", "Krayrechnata Gora", "Zlatishka Beech Forest", "Bassarbovski Steppe", "Cherveni Kamak", "Polovrak", and the natural landmark "Skalen Most Uglen". An order was also issued to increase the coverage of the protected area "Tesnolisten Bozhur". Orders for the declaration of another five protected areas have been drafted and are pending issuance.
Bulgaria welcomed 112 national delegations to Sofia for the 61st session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, organized by the Ministry of Environment and Water. At the UN Climate Conference COP29 in Baku, we reaffirmed our country's strong position in climate policy.
