The winners in the Green Olympics are already selected. After a one-year interruption, the initiative was resumed by Minister Asen Lichev, with this year's edition held online, without live events due to anti-epidemic measures.

The website www.zelenaolimpiada.com provided the opportunity to every student from 1st to 12th grade to test their knowledge on nature through specially designed tests of 10 questions. The last question being an open-answer one and asking participants to write a short essay on a given topic.

Among the youngest winners is third-grader Siyana Zlatkova from 81st General Education School “Victor Hugo”, Sofia. In the middle category, the award was given to seventh-grader Savina Ivanova from the Second Primary School “Hristo Smirnenski”, Sandanski. Among the high school students is Ivan Lazarov, a tenth-grade student at the “St. Kliment Ohridski”High School in Peshtera. Each of the winners will receive a tablet and a diploma from the Minister of Environment and Water for their excellent performance.

Most interest attracted the question asked to the oldest participant age group: “How can we protect nature on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast?”. The young high school environmentalists responded with enviable knowledge of the problems, but also ideas for solutions - control over construction, stricter penalties for industrial pollution, severe sanctions against negligent tourists, and 24-hour beach security during the active tourist season.

Junior high school students addressed the topic: “How to properly collect waste?”. The youngest age group of participants answered the question "Why is it important to plant trees?".

The “Green Olympics” stimulates student interest in environmental protection and contributes to environmental education. The initiative has been supported by the MOEW since 2012.

The names of the winners and their essays have been published on the website of the “Green Olympics” and the Facebook page of the initiative. You can see them HERE.
