Ideas for wild nature protection were submitted by high school students for the “Green Olympics”

After a contested knowledge competition on nature conservation, the “Green Olympics” announced the winners of this year’s tenth edition of the contest. These are awarded in three age groups – elementary, junior high, and high school.

The initiative was under the patronage of the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova and was held entirely online. This gave children from the entire country - from big cities and the smallest towns, the opportunity to participate.

On the website www.zelenaolimpiada.com, participants from grades 1st to 12th tested their knowledge on nature through tests of 10 questions each. The last question was open-ended and participants had to write a short essay in response.

This year’s winner among the youngest is Vesela Nestorova, a student in the 3rd grade at the 35th School “Dobri Voynikov” in Sofia. In the junior high school stage, the sixth-grader Bozhena Georgieva from the 4th Elementary School “Ivan Vazov”, Montana, took the award. Among the high school students, Ivaylo Mandev from Sliven was awarded, who is a student in the 10th grade at the Mathematics High School “Dobri Chintulov”. Each of them will receive a tablet and a certificate of excellence from the Minister of Environment and Water.

The most active were the oldest students, to whom the following question was addressed “How to protect wildlife from human irresponsibility”. High school students showed excellent knowledge and a mature attitude, whereby the idea of ​​the importance of environmental education is present in all answers.

The junior high school students responded to the topic “How to reduce the use of plastic products”, while the youngest answered the question “Why is it important to collect waste separately”.

The “Green Olympics” by Akademika BG has established itself as the most popular online educational initiative that stimulates children and young people to strengthen their knowledge about nature and its protection and contributes to building an environmental culture. The initiative has been supported by the Ministry of Environment and Water since 2012.
