The Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev welcomed the successful completion of the salvage operation to tow away the run-aground ship “Vera Su”, after the remaining quantities of the flooded cargo were drained from it.
With the completion of the actions for unloading and securing the ship, the risk of sea water pollution in the area of the Yaylata protected area has been eliminated, together with the risk for the health and livelihood of the people from the region.
Minister Asen Lichev thanked all participants in the salvage team. They carried out a complex plan in 9 steps with surgical precision, and dissipated the accusations against the state and the maritime community. Such an operation in the dark part of the day can be performed by a few in the world.
Minister Lichev has commissioned that a list be put together of participants in the rescue operation to be nominated for state honors.
He expressed gratitude to the monitoring teams of the Ministry of Environment and Water, which have been working continuously for a month under difficult conditions to monitor the Black Sea waters.
