Minister Borislav Sandov declared the “Malko Negovansko Ezero” a protected area

The Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov declared by order the “Malko Negovansko Ezero” (literal translation from Bulgarian: “Little Negovan Lake") a protected area. The natural landmark is located on the land of the village of Negovan within the municipality of Sofia, Sofia region, and covers an area of ​​49,916 decares.

The area was declared protected on the grounds of Art. 39, in connection with art. 33, para. 1 of the Protected Areas Act (PAA) in order to protect the lake ecosystem, which is a habitat of valuable and protected plant and animal species, such as Nymphaea alba, Nymphoides peltata, Utricularia australis, Marsilea quadrifolia, Egretta alba, Nycticorax nycticorax, Egreta garzetta, Ardeola ralloides, Ardea purpurea, Botaurus stellaris, Ixobrychus minutus, Phalacrocorax pygmaeus, Tachybaptus ruficollis, Podiceps cristatus, Aythya nyroca, Fulica atra, Rallus aquaticus, Gallinula chloropus, Circus aeruginosus, Anas strepera, Aythya ferina, Chlidonias hybrida, Remiz pendulinus, Cettia cetti, and others.
