Deputy Prime Minister for Climate Policy and Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov participated at the Stockholm +50 International Meeting on Environment, Climate and Development. The forum was entitled “A healthy planet for the well-being of all - our responsibility, our chance” and was held on June 2 and 3 in Stockholm, Sweden.

The event marked the 50th anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Environment Conference and 50 years of global environmental action.

In his speech yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Borislav Sandov noted the achievements of the last half century and the need for further joint efforts to implement the multilateral agreements in the field of environment and Agenda 2030. He pointed out that this is the only way to deal with the economic and social challenges that are even more critical in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the debt, food, and energy crises. Green and inclusive recovery in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement requires optimal use of all available financial resources and investments in human capital, social protection systems, sustainable infrastructure, and technology.

Minister Sandov pointed out that our country is working hard to provide an appropriate framework for its green transformation. Bulgaria’s Recovery and Resilience Plan provides funds for projects aimed at increase in the share of renewable energy sources, development of electromobility and related infrastructure, industrial technological solutions for green hydrogen, energy saving, and digitalization.

“Implementing Agenda 2030 is a shared responsibility that requires a holistic approach, through the continuous and strong involvement of all stakeholders, including national, regional, and local authorities, the private sector, the social partners, academia and civil society,” the Prime Minister concluded.
