The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov met with the Mayor of the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo Daniel Panov. The two discussed the situation related to the numerous signals from citizens about odors in the city and the possible actions that can be taken to reduce the environmental impact of the activities of the operating Kronospan installation.

An agreement was reached to take joint actions to limit the spread of odors. Minister Popov and Mayor Panov also united in the understanding that it is necessary to ensure better publicity and to increase public awareness of issues related to the spread of odors.

Minister Julian Popov committed to taking action to commission odor measurements in order to identify potential sources and the possibility of limiting them.

The Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo explicitly emphasized the need to reduce the permissible standards under which the Kronospan installation operates.

The conversation also discussed the readiness of municipalities to introduce the "you pay for what you throw away" principle and good practices were shared that had been introduced by the Municipality of Veliko Tarnovo.
