Minister Julian Popov discusses clean technology solutions in the Plovdiv Industrial Zone
07 Apr, 2026 | 18:22The Minister for the Environment and Water Julian Popov visited the Plovdiv Industrial Zone to become acquainted with the development of the natural industrial zone and the innovations introduced. He spoke with the team at the Centre for Clean Technologies and Efficient Use of Biomass at the Agricultural University of Plovdiv.
Representatives of the International Research and Innovation Centre, which focuses on the development and application of clean technologies, demonstrated modern solutions aimed at the efficient use of biomass and sustainable waste management in the Plovdiv region. The center successfully partners with international organisations, universities, and industry associations from Switzerland and other countries.
Minister Popov discussed opportunities to reduce Bulgaria’s energy dependence with the management of companies in the industrial zone. The industrial zone management presented the memorandum signed with EVN to establish an energy community, which will work to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy sources. The need for greater investment in research into clean technologies was also a topic of discussion.
