The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov met with representatives of the Bulgarian companies that produce agricultural fertilizers - "Neochim" and "Agropolychim", and the Association of Agricultural Producers in Bulgaria.

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) was the main topic of the discussion between the parties.

Minister Popov is holding a series of meetings dedicated to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the emissions trading schemes ETS1 and ETS2, in order to enable interested parties to express their positions regarding the mechanisms, to raise issues requiring consideration, and thus to contribute to formulating a unified national position.

"CBAM was created to prevent inequality and I cannot help but agree with the opinion expressed here that it contributes to increasing competitiveness. What we need to think about is how to compensate the negatively affected sectors, to support them in some way," said Minister Popov.

The meeting discussed ideas and potential solutions, and the representatives of the three countries accepted with commitment the call by Minister Popov to formulate specific measures for the process of implementing the Mechanism in Bulgaria and to present to the Ministry of Environment and Water their proposals - both common views and specific positions.
