The municipalities affected by the recent floods will be exempted from payments for the deposition of landfilled waste, which currently amount to 95 BGN per ton. This was announced by the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova, who signed the order today.

According to the instructions in the order, no fees will be paid for disposal of the waste generated during the removal of the consequences of the floods on the territory of the municipalities of Karlovo, Maritsa, and Kaloyanovo. Pursuant to the Waste Management Act, municipalities pay deductions in the amount of 95 BGN per ton under Art. 64 and fees under Art. 60 that are determined by the owners of the landfills.

To prevent environmental damage and unregulated disposal of waste, increased control will be executed over the quantities and types of landfilled waste that is formed as a result of the removal of the consequences of the floods on the territory of the affected municipalities.

Actions taken by the Ministry of Environment and Water include an accelerated procedure for identifying temporary sites for bulky household waste. In this regard, the director of RIEW-Plovdiv informed mayors about the need to provide such sites for waste collection from the distressed settlements.

This will allow households to dispose of bulky waste (electrical and electronic equipment, biodegradable and other waste) free of charge, until it reaches entities with the relevant required permits/registration documents under the Waste Management Act.

The actions entailed by the order of the Minister of Environment and Water are part of the government’s assistance for those who suffered from the floods and the relevant local authorities.
