This was said by the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova in the “Loven” Park in Sofia, where she and teams from the ministry and its structures joined the campaign, of which the MOEW is the main partner.

“It is a multifaceted process, but the good news is that we are changing, we have a common goal. We have to go a long way, but with joint efforts we will succeed”, added the minister.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov, together with 60 people from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Varna, the Basin Directorate “Black Sea Region”, and the Institute of Oceanology at the Bulgarian Academy of Science cleaned about 30 decares of the beach strip of “Kamchia – North”, located on the territory of the municipality of Avren.

In Plovdiv, Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva together with employees of RIEW-Plovdiv, representatives of the Basin Directorate “Eastern Aegean Region” and the laboratory of the Executive Agency for Environment, cleaned the areas along the Maritsa river bed in the city.

Over 150 employees of the MOEW in Sofia participated in the initiative, and many of them joined with their children. Hundreds of representatives from the structures of the Ministry throughout the country are involved in the campaign by BTV. This year marks the tenth anniversary since the start of the initiative, in nine of them the MOEW and the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities have been main partners.

“Thank you to everyone from the ministry who participated. I am glad to work with professionals, but also people dedicated to the cause of environmental protection,” said the minister.

She explained that headquarters have been set up in the ministry, which will process the data about collected waste throughout the day. The data will be the starting point for follow-up actions by the ministry, as well as will be reported as output from the cleaning campaign.

With the financial support by the MOEW of nearly 84 000 BGN through the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities 40 000 waste bags and 40 000 pairs of disposable gloves have been provided through. 3 500 fuel vouchers were distributed to the regional administrations for transporting collected waste.

The municipalities are exempted from deductions and guarantees under the Waste Management Act for the amounts of deposited waste that was collected during the campaign.
