The Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Bulgaria H.E. Temirtai Izbastin.

The green transition and Bulgaria’s experience in applying the high European standards for environmental and water protection were the focus of the meeting yesterday.

Minister Karamfilova welcomed the Kazakh delegation and expressed readiness to strengthen the cooperation and the sustainable development of the bilateral dialogue. The bilateral relations and environmental protection policies in Bulgaria and Kazakhstan were discussed.

Ambassador Izbastin noted that Bulgaria is an important partner for Kazakhstan in Southeast Europe and presented the “Green Bridge” initiative, whereby the Kazakh government calls for a low-carbon transformation. He highlighted the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 as a top priority in the Kazakh government’s environmental policy.

Minister Karamfilova stated that Bulgaria as a member state of the EU is working hard to fulfill the commitments made in the field of the environment and many of our country’s policies are aimed at facilitating the green transition. She added that the Recovery and Resilience Plan foresees a number of measures, which will ensure the green transition when funded.

Minister Karamfilova and Ambassador Izbastin confirmed the readiness to deepen the cooperation on topics of mutual interest for both countries.
