Minister Lichev to NGOs: I have restored the work of the National Biodiversity Council

Good news in respect to the resumption of the work of the National Biodiversity Council and the submission to the Council of Ministers of the National Waste Management Plan for the period 2021-2028 was announced by Minister Asen Lichev at the fourth meeting with non-governmental organizations active in the environmental field. The plan is with an indicative value of 1.690 billion BGN and there is signed financial justification for it, he said.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Emilia Toncheva, Reneta Koleva, and Petar Dimitrov, as well as by experts from Operational Program “Environment” (OPE) and the Water Management Directorate.

NGOs signaled the MOEW political cabinet about the need for a follow-up assessment of environmental regulations, drew attention to the identified inconsistencies in the mapping of dunes along the Black Sea coast and alerted to a problem related to the farming of the wild American mink in Bulgaria.

Deputy Minister Emilia Toncheva informed that the next meeting with NGOs (Friday, June 18th 2021) will be thematic. It will be attended by the Director of the Executive Forest Agency (EFA), with whom all possible measures in the fight against poaching will be discussed.
