Minister Manol Genov ordered the Water and Sewerage Companies to be urgently sent data on alternative water sources for water supply
26 Sep, 2025 | 16:13The Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov has issued an order to the four basin water management directorates to take urgent measures to overcome the water crisis in the country.
"I expect the basin directorates in Plovdiv, Varna, Pleven, and Blagoevgrad to urgently send to the Water and Sewerage Associations and the Water and Sewerage Companies information with data on alternative water sources for water supply to the settlements within their territorial scope. This is extremely important to do without a day's delay," emphasized Minister Genov.
The basin directorates are obliged to send this information in order to clarify what the alternative options are for the Water and Sewerage Companies for water supply to the settlements, especially in the regions with a drinking and domestic water supply regime. In unconsolidated areas, this information must be sent to the municipalities in the respective territorial scope of each of the basin directorates.
The order by Minister Genov also states that the water supply companies and municipalities need to be informed about permits issued to the water supply operators and water quantities used in the previous year 2024 for water supply.
The order to the basin directorates is in implementation of the Decision by the National Assembly on taking urgent actions to overcome the water crisis in the Republic of Bulgaria, adopted on September 3 this year, and in accordance with the National Water Board formed by Decision No. 645 of the Council of Ministers of September 17.
