Minister Manol Genov: the Euro introduction will allow us better access to green investments
04 Sep, 2025 | 17:03"The introduction of the Euro will not only constitute a transition to the common European currency, but much more - a chance for economic security and financial stability for our society and for all participants in socio-economic relations." This was said by the Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov during an information meeting in Plovdiv, which is part of the national information campaign for the introduction of the Euro in the country.
According to him, joining the Eurozone is particularly important in the field of the environment. "The introduction of the Euro will allow us better access to green investments. The people who are present here and have experience in this field know that Bulgaria is still lagging behind in access to green funds of the European Commission," said Manol Genov, expressing his belief that from the beginning of next year the mechanism for access to green financing will be easier for Bulgarian companies.
Manol Genov emphasized that environmental protection is at the center of public relations in the country. “I can say that for the business – with the requirements for environmental standards, carbon footprint, green policies – it is not easy,” said the Minister. He is convinced that joining the Eurozone will give us the opportunity as a country to become a reliable partner in the EU green policies and to improve the quality of life for Bulgarian citizens.
“We know that the climate transition is not going in the best way in Europe – we see an outflow of investments and the export of production from Europe. Indeed, this balanced approach is very important for all the requirements that we currently place on the business,” said Manol Genov.
“We all have expectations, concerns, forecasts about the effects – be they negative or positive, that may occur in the future after January 1, 2026,” shared the Minister. “We need to realize that, as challenging as this process is for all of us, we need to use all European mechanisms in order to make the appropriate investments in the right way in the environmental sector and to truly benefit from green policies for the entire Bulgarian state and every Bulgarian citizen,” he concluded.
The event was attended by the Minister of Economy and Industry Petar Dilov, of e-Government Valentin Mundrov and of Justice Georgi Georgiev. The forum was hosted by the Mayor of Plovdiv Kostadin Dimitrov and the Deputy Minister of Finance Metodi Metodiev. The meeting in Plovdiv brought together representatives of the government, the Bulgarian National Bank, the Consumer Protection Commission, the National Revenue Agency, the Financial Supervision Commission, the National Social Security Institute, local authorities, and social partners.
We recall that the National Information Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria was launched in Burgas two days ago. As part of the campaign, meetings are also scheduled in other regional cities, as well as in smaller municipalities. The goal is for citizens and businesses to receive accessible and reliable information about the stages and deadlines for the introduction of the common European currency.
