Minister Popov and Ambassador Pierre Hagmann discussed the three programs implemented in the field of environment with Swiss donor funding
02 Apr, 2026 | 11:00Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov and Ambassador Pierre Hagmann discussed the three programs implemented in the field of environment with donor funding from Switzerland.
Minister Popov presented the progress in the implementation of the three measures financed with donor support under the Swiss-Bulgarian Cooperation Program.
The measures implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Water will create a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
One of the main foci is the safe disposal of existing quantities of obsolete pesticides, which have been stored for decades at inappropriate and risky conditions.
Minister Popov indicated that the creation of a safe environment is one of the main priorities under the measure "Monitoring, control, and disposal of obsolete pesticides and prevention measures". Bulgaria continues its commitment to sustainable management of hazardous substances, building on the results of the previous Swiss contribution.
"With the support measure ‘Improving air quality through a modernized and recognized national air quality measurement system and scientific partnerships’, we will improve the air quality infrastructure. Nowadays, when air quality issues directly affect people's daily lives, the need for reliable data and a clear vision is becoming increasingly necessary. We are working on concrete improvements in the way we monitor air quality, aiming for better awareness and effective measures by institutions. This measure highlights the need for a modern approach - based on accurate data, effective tools, and active cooperation between institutions and the scientific community. This is a real investment in public health and the sustainable development of our cities and communities," said Minister Popov.
The implementation of the support measure "Visitor Infrastructure and Sustainable Use of a National Park" is an opportunity to take a real step forward towards better maintained, more functional, and more sustainable visitor facilities that meet modern expectations of people and at the same time protect nature. The improvements that will be implemented will contribute to a better quality experience for visitors, better working conditions for employees, and better protection of one of our most valuable natural resources.
It is particularly important that this measure does not simply invest in specific sites, but creates a model of responsible attitude, wise use of resources, and long-term thinking. This is an approach that shows that nature conservation and development can go together when there is a clear vision and good partnership.
Minister Julian Popov and Ambassador Pierre Hagmann expressed their desire to continue and deepen the fruitful cooperation between the two countries.
