Minister Rositsa Karamfilova and Minister Ilin Dimitrov discussed opportunities for deploying ecological instruments in tourism

Implementing environmentally-friendly practices, improving tourist infrastructure in a sustainable way, and encouraging more hotels to introduce “green” solutions - these topics were discussed by the Minister of Environment and Water Rositsa Karamfilova and the Minister of Tourism Ilin Dimitrov at a working meeting today at the Ministry of Environemnt and Water.

The two united around the idea to ​​create conditions for the tourist sector that are compatible with attaining ecological goals.

During the meeting, the possibility to hold a broad forum was discussed, whereby the state and each branch related to the provision of tourist services would lay out the specifics and try to find ways for joint action, so as to stimulate the process of introducing “green” practices by businesses. At the forum, It is planned to outline the parameters of a strategic document with specific measures to be taken.

In addition to setting short-term goals, this action plan will also contribute to Bulgaria’s preparation for its bid to host the 29th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Climate Change (COP 29) , which will be held in the end of 2024.

Minister Karamfilova noted that when organizing the conference, it is necessary ensure a minimal environmental footprint.

Minister Dimitrov expressed commitment to convene a meeting with the industry as soon as possible in order to start the joint efforts on positioning Bulgaria as a suitable host for such a high-level conference, providing the required conditions for conducting it within the context of the global topic of climate change.
