The Deputy Prime Minister for Climate Policy and Minister of Environment and Water Borislav Sandov met yesterday with the Ambassador of Sweden Her Excellency Katarina Rangnitt, the Ambassador of Finland Her Excellency Kristiina Kuvaja, and the Ambassador of Denmark His Excellency Jes Brogaard Nielsen.

The ambassadors noted that issues related to climate change are of priority importance for the Scandinavian countries and praised Bulgaria’s decision to have a Deputy Prime Minister for Climate Policy.

Minister Sandov highlighted the traditionally good relations between the four countries within the EU, NATO, and other international organizations. He thanked the governments of Denmark, Finland, and Sweden for their support for Bulgaria’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The main subject of the conversation was the “Fit for 55” package proposed by the European Commission, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030. Minister Sandov underlined that achieving this ambitious goal will be the result of many efforts and targeted policies, which must be sufficiently flexible and based on a fair distribution of burden and benefits among Member States. It is particularly important for our country that national peculiarities of each member state are taken into consideration.

Minister Sandov briefly presented the measures in the draft National Recovery and Resilience Plan that will contribute to the achievement of the goal of the “Fit for 55” package. He also informed about the forthcoming reform in the field of waste management in support of the zero waste policy.
