The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov and the Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev held a meeting with livestock farmers’ organizations in search of solutions related to grazing of animals in national parks. The meeting was held today at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food on the initiative of livestock farmers. The directors of the national parks and experts from the two ministries participated.

Livestock farmers shared their concerns about being able to feed their animals and keeping pastures in good condition. They suggested discussing the option of extending the measure to high mountain pastures to reduce pressure on national parks, as well as to maintain traditional practices of local communities.

The role of local people and livestock farmers in the conservation of national parks was highlighted by both ministries.

It was confirmed at the meeting that grazing plans and grazing areas in the three national parks Rila, Pirin, and Central Balkan will be published for public consultation.
