New four century-old trees have been declared protected
13 Feb, 2026 | 11:44By order of the Minister of Environment and Water Manol Genov, four new century-old trees have been declared protected.
Three of them are approximately 100 years old and are of the species Cer (Quercus cerris). All three are about 22 m tall and are located in the Kremaka area in the land of the village of Slatina, Lovech Municipality, Lovech District. Their trunk circumferences are 3 m, 3.20 m and 3.70 m respectively.
The fourth 100-year-old tree is of the species Hairy Oak (Quercus pubescens), has a trunk circumference of 2.70 m and a height of about 20 m and is located in the Kremaka area in the land of the village of Slatina.
The proposal to declare all four century-old trees protected was submitted by the Ministry of Defense.
By declaring the four trees protected, uprooting, felling, pruning, breaking branches, injuring the stems and any other actions that would lead to the destruction, damage, or deterioration of the physiological condition of the trees are prohibited.
The order is to be published in the State Gazette, after which the trees will be entered in the registers according to the requirements of the Biodiversity Act and designated as century-old trees.
