RIEW – Burgas and the Black Sea Region Basin Directorate – Varna are carrying out checks on the information about the presence of fuel oil stains on the Harmanite beach in Sozopol.

RIEW – Burgas is in contact with the Sozopol Municipality and the concessionaire of the beach. According to information from the Sozopol Municipality, the stains are already being cleaned. RIEW experts defined the pollution as a condensed oil fraction that has been in the sea for a long time. Samples from the locations polluted with the oil stains were taken for laboratory analysis.

The Basin Directorate team will also take samples of sea water to test for presence traces of oil products.

The Basin Directorate will submit a report to the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” to track possible pollution from vessels passing through the area.
