On 22 April, we mark Earth Day with the theme “Our Power, Our Planet”. The mass mobilisation of people has always been at the heart of Earth Day and is a catalyst for a shift in mindset, because when people unite for a common cause, they can overcome even the greatest challenges.

This year’s campaign theme calls on communities around the world to take action in support of clean air, clean water, clean energy, protected natural resources, and climate stability.

In today’s world, environmental protection faces pressure across the globe due to economic stress, conflicts, climate impacts, and shifting political priorities. Environmental policies affect the costs borne by households, local authorities, and national economies, impacting utility prices, agricultural productivity, post-disaster recovery costs and public health systems. Therefore, the involvement of local communities provides a mechanism for ensuring continuity and accountability where institutional capacity varies.

This year marks the 56th edition of the international initiative. On Earth Day, 192 countries and over a billion people worldwide take part in various campaigns and activities dedicated to protecting the planet. For 56 years, Earth Day has been one of the world’s leading campaigns for raising awareness and taking action on critically important environmental issues.

The power of this movement lies in its mass nature. It is the collective voice of the community that pushes governments and corporations to make bold commitments and take decisive action. By engaging in public initiatives and making sustainable choices in their daily lives, people are the catalysts for change.

Collective action is measured by improvements in public health, ecosystem stability and economic resilience across regions. Earth Day’s global legacy demonstrates people’s ability to work together across borders to protect the planet’s shared resources. Participation in Earth Day 2026 continues this model by supporting systems that manage costs, reduce environmental risk, and strengthen communities around the world.

Through its regional offices, the Ministry of Environment and Water is joining the global Earth Day campaign with a variety of activities and initiatives across the country in support of the global environmental protection movement.
