Over 3500 tons of waste were collected and transported to regional landfills during the days of the emblematic campaign of bTV Media Group “Let’s Clean Bulgaria Together”. On September 20, 2300 places were cleaned with the participation of 29300 volunteers. This is according to data from the Regional Inspectorates for Environment and Water (RIEWs), which collected and processed information on the quantities of waste during the campaign.

Volunteers of various ages from hundreds of points in the country joined the clean-up. The number of municipalities that attracted volunteers to participate – a total of 199, is with nine more compared to last year. Employees of the Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW), the Environment Executive Agency, and the regional structures of the ministry – the 15 regional inspectorates for environment and water, the 3 national parks and the 4 basin directorates, actively participated in the clean-up.

The largest amount of waste was collected on the territory of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Ruse - 632 tons, followed by the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Plovdiv - 621 tons, and the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Burgas - 520 tons.

The data from the remaining inspectorates are as follows: RIEW - Blagoevgrad – 321 tons, RIEW - Varna – 277.5 tons, RIEW - Veliko Tarnovo – 21 tons, RIEW - Vratsa – 75.5 tons, RIEW - Montana – 51 tons, RIEW - Pazardzhik – 99.4 tons, RIEW - Pleven – 42 tons, RIEW - Smolyan – 72 tons, RIEW - Sofia – 290 tons, RIEW - Stara Zagora – 320 tons, RIEW - Haskovo – 74.5 tons, and RIEW - Shumen – 88 tons.

The Ministry of Environment and Water is an established long-term partner of the bTV initiative “Let’s Clean Bulgaria Together”, but for the first year it is providing bags in 3 colors – yellow, green and black, for separate waste collection: yellow ones are for paper, plastic and metal; green ones are for glass; the black ones - for other types of household waste.

With the financial support of Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities (EMEPA), 40000 bags and 800 boxes of gloves were provided for a total value of BGN 11500. 2500 fuel vouchers were distributed to the regional governments for transporting the collected waste to the regional waste management systems.

This year, the Ministry of Environment and Water also provided assistance to exempt the municipalities from any due fees for the quantities of waste deposited during the campaign.

The large-scale volunteer campaign supports the causes of the largest civil movement in the world "Let's Do It World" for public sensitivity to environmental protection.
