The Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Reneta Koleva attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the project “Landfill closure restoration in the Municipality of Sapareva Banya”. The event was attended by the Mayor of the Municipality of Sapareva Banya Kalin Gelev, the Deputy Governor of Kyustendil Georgi Ilinov, as well as by representatives of the Sapareva Banya Municipality and the companies participating in the project.

The project is funded by Operational Program “Environment” 2014 – 2020 and amounts to nearly 950,000 BGN of which 806,524 BGN come from European funds and 142,327 BGN  from national co-financing.

The implementation of the project aims to improve waste management in the Municipality of Sapareva Banya and limit the risks to the environment and health of the population in the Municipality by carrying out technical restoration of a landfill for non-hazardous waste. The project is being implementation in relation to an infringement procedure, case C-145/14 of the Court of Justice of the EU.
