The Director of RIEW-Ruse eng. Tsonka Hristova and the directors of directorates within the inspectorate held a meeting with citizens on the issue of air quality in the city. The meeting took place on initiative by active citizens, organized through social networks on occasion of the many signals about unpleasant smells in the city in recent months.

The activities and control over several companies were discussed, which people associate with odors of bakelite, organics, etc. In their statements, citizens raised issues related to the change of complex permits for operators, extension of the scope of measured air pollutants, change in the regulatory framework, etc.

The Director of RIEW-Ruse raised the issue with the competences of the environmental inspectorate, the possibilities of reaction to signals, and the restrictions that the legislation imposes on control of odours. As there is no specialised legislation on odours at this stage, she informed about the work of a special working group on this issue. She promised to organize another meeting, in a broader format, with the participation of representatives of other institutions and the municipality to synchronise the efforts of the public of Ruse and the institutions.

Eng. Hristova expressed readiness for cooperation and open discussion with the participants in the meeting.
