An operation to rescue a helpless bear cub, about 2 years old, was conducted yesterday by experts from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water (RIEW) - Smolyan, the State Forestry – Smolyan, and the Regional Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Smolyan.

At 7 pm on September 24, a call was received by 112 for a helpless bear cub in the river between the villages of Smilyan and Koshnitsa, Smolyan Municipality. After the bear cub was sedated, an initial examination was undertaken, during which it was established that the individual was female with a wound in the neck area, which was probably several days old.

During the night of September 24-25, the bear cub was transported to Blagoevgrad with the assistance of the Dancing Bear Park. With the assistance of the Four Paws Foundation, additional examinations of the injured bear cub were organized, and it is to be transported and placed for treatment at the Center for Nature and Animal Protection in Dobrich. This care for the bear cub was agreed upon by experts from the National Nature Protection Service Directorate at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Environment and the management of the zoo center in Dobrich.
