Experts from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Veliko Tarnovo inspected the site of Kronospan – Bulgaria EOOD today with the aim of taking action to phase out and subsequently seal the facilities of the chipboard production line, including one dryer and two hot air facilities. The inspection is based on the finding from the inspection on 17.01.2026 that the shutdown of the installation should be completed on 20.01.2026.

The company did not provide assistance in taking measures to phase out the capacity of the production line, which effectively impedes the implementation of the imposed compulsory administrative measure under the Environmental Protection Act (EPA). The main arguments that the shutdown of the installation is not allowed at sub-zero temperatures in order to prevent fires, freezing, and damage to the facilities were not accepted as a credible argument by the experts from the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water – Veliko Tarnovo.

In this regard, the inspection has notified the Regional Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo and the District Prosecutor's Office - Veliko Tarnovo to take action within their competence, with a view to implementing the necessary actions by the control body for the safe shutdown of the production line in implementation of the Order (№RD-18/15.01.2026) by the Director of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment and Water - Veliko Tarnovo for a compulsory administrative measure.
