Sustainable improvement of air quality in Sredets after the big fire

The Ministry of Environment and Water informs that data from the mobile automatic station (MAS), located in the town of Sredets, show a clear and sustainable decrease in the levels of harmful substances in the air. This gives grounds for the cancellation of the state of emergency declared after the outbreak of the large fire in the area.
The analysis of the indicators as of 09:00h on July 26, compared to the values recorded when the station was switched on on July 25 at 09:00h, shows the following dynamics:
- Nitrogen oxide:7 → 2.3 mg/m³
- Nitrogen dioxide:6 → 7.8 mg/m³
- Sulfur dioxide:4 → 9.1 mg/m³
- Carbon monoxide:626 → 0.338 mg/m³
- Ozone:5 → 24.7 mg/m³
- Particulate matter (PM): 176 → 21 mg/m³
- Methane: no presence reported
The measurements will continue for 72 hours – until 10:00h on July 28 (Monday), in order to monitor the durability of the improvement and ensure the safety of citizens.
The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) continues to monitor the situation and will provide timely information regarding any change in air quality indicators in the municipality of Sredets and the region.
