In order to assess the state of sea waters and monitor the potential impact of the salvage operation, an additional 7-point area monitoring was carried out today in the proximity of the run-aground ship “Vera Su”. The points had been determined in accord with the direction of the prevailing sea current. Their location allows tracking the potential long-term impact on the marine environment by conducting periodic modelled surveys of coastal waters.

The daily monitoring from the coastal point 60 meters south of the run-aground ship continues.

In relation to the ongoing actions to unload the damaged vessel, today the monitoring teams of the Ministry of Environment and Water found a visibly whitish turbidity of waters in the area of the ship’s bow. The findings were immediately reported to the Maritime Administration Executive Agency for taking measures and preventing the pollution of sea water during the completion of the activities.

Monitoring the progress of the salvage operation confirms that unloading the ship will gradually eliminate the risk of marine water pollution.

The MOEW teams continue to monitor the condition of Black Sea waters on a daily basis in the immediate vicinity of the run-aground ship “Vera Su” in order to monitor the unloading operation.
