The Black Sea Basin Directorate identified illegal water intake facilities in the “Baba Alino” area
08 Jun, 2026 | 16:35Following reports of an illegal water intake facility and unregulated water abstraction for domestic and drinking water needs in the “Baba Alino” area, experts from the Black Sea Basin Directorate conducted an immediate on-site inspection today. However, during the inspection, a second illegal facility was discovered nearby. The water intake facilities are located in the area of construction sites in the locality, where the competent authorities had previously identified violations of construction regulations.
It was determined that the facilities are not registered in accordance with Article 118g, paragraph 3 of the Water Act. One is located in a buried shaft with a metal cover, and the piping network inside it indicates unauthorized use of water from the water source; the other is currently being inspected.
Officials from the Black Sea Region Basin Directorate are continuing their efforts to determine the manner and purpose of the water’s use. During an inspection of a neighboring building, water meters were found installed on water mains serving residential buildings.
The investigation is not yet complete. Follow-up actions are currently being carried out within the scope of the Black Sea Basin Directorate’s authority; once these are completed, the appropriate administrative measures will be taken in accordance with the applicable legislation.
