The Danube Region Basin Directorate - Pleven monitors continuously the Vit River basin and the level of the Sopot Dam after the rainfall
26 May, 2025 | 19:00Within the Vit River basin, after the rainfall, a significant increase in river runoff was noted. The Vit River overflowed its bed in the Polaten neighbourhood of the town of Teteven. A street and a residential property located next to the street were flooded.
The river has currently receded without causing any damage. The right tributary of the Vit River - the Kalnik River - has overflowed its lower reaches, before flowing into the Vit River, from the village of “Bulgarski Izvor” to the "Boaza" area.
The Sopot Dam, located on the river, is increasing its level, having risen by about 10 cm in 3 hours. The main outlet is open and is releasing 2 cubic meters per second.
On Friday, May 23, the Danube Region Basin Directorate - Pleven issued a warning to the mayors of municipalities and mayoralties and regional governors about the upcoming heavy rainfall.
