The emergency monitoring of the sea waters near Ahtopol shows no pollution from oil products due to the stranded tanker
10 Dec, 2025 | 10:00The results of the emergency monitoring of sea waters near Ahtopol do not show the presence of petroleum products, polychlorobiphenyls (PCBs 28, 52, 101, 138, 153, 180), benzene, ethylbenzene, toluene, styrene, and oils. All values are below the limits of determination of the test methods.
The Ministry of Environment and Water has started an emergency monitoring of the sea waters due to the stranded tanker. Immediate actions were taken to dismiss the suspicions of potential pollution of Black Sea waters near Ahtopol. In this regard, the Black Sea Region Basin Directorate (BSRBD) - Varna took samples between Sozopol and Rezovo, which will provide data on the state of the sea water.
The coordinates of the sampling points are:
- 42°24’36.20” N latitude, 27°43’47.35” E longitude
- 41°59’42.55” N latitude, 28°01’56.86” E longitude
The Ministry of Environment and Water continues to monitor for potential pollution in the Black Sea following the strikes on merchant ships.
