The fire in the Central Balkan has been extinguished

The fire in the Central Balkan has been extinguished. The rain that fell around 16:00 over the area helped to bring the fire under control. Efforts to extinguish it continued for more than 72 hours in the "Steneto" reserve on the territory of the "Central Balkan" National Park. Employees of the directorate of the park, forest farms, firefighters from local regional services, over 55 military personnel from the 61st Stryamska Mechanized Brigade - Karlovo, 30 volunteers from formations from the city of Sofia and the city of Plovdiv participated in the actions. Two specialized helicopters were also involved in the operation.

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, Minister of Internal Affairs Kalin Stoyanov, and Minister of Environment and Water Petar Dimitrov were on site during the efforts to bring the fire under control, whereby they assisted in providing additional equipment.

With the support and participation of all present, the fire was restrained from entering into the conifer wood and cause serious damage to the natural habitats.
