The Managing Authority (MA) of the Program Environment 2021-2027 (PE) held a consultation with representatives of 41 potential applicants under the procedure “Reclamation of landfills/cells of municipal waste landfills”.

During the online meeting, the municipalities raised topics for discussion on the scope and requirements of the procedure, and received specific recommendations and explanations from the PE team and from the directorate “Waste Management and Soil Protection” at the Ministry of Environment and Water.

During the current program period, the Managing Authority's approach is to work actively with potential beneficiaries at the earliest stage, and this strategy will be applied to all upcoming procedures. The goal is to improve the overall process of program implementation – including by increasing the quality of the application guidelines, and by optimizing the preparation of project proposals, and thereby guaranteeing the successful subsequent implementation of the projects.

The procedure “Reclamation of landfills/cells of municipal waste landfills” aims to develope and improve municipal waste management systems at the regional level, so that Bulgarian municipalities can achieve the goals set in the Waste Directive within the prescribed time limit, i.e. by 2030

The criteria for evaluating project proposals under the procedure will be presented for approval by the Program Oversight Committee at its second meeting in March 2023. The procedure is expected to be announced in the second quarter of this year.
