• Bulgaria was among the first countries in the region that signed the UNICEF Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action in 2022

The Minister of Environment and Water Julian Popov met with Ms. Christina de Bruin, UNICEF representative in Bulgaria. Ms. de Bruin praised the fruitful cooperation between UNICEF and our country, which is part of the Executive Board of the organization. She presented the main priority areas of the Cooperation Program for the period 2023 - 2027 implemented by the Government of the Republic of Bulgaria and UNICEF.

The conversation focused on initiatives related to the environment and the climate and their impact on children.

Ms. de Bruin presented the new General Comment (General Comment No. 26) on Children’s Rights and the Environment with a Special Focus on Climate Change to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which will be officially published on Monday, 28 August and will be launched on 18 September 2023.
