  • Water resource levels are high, according to the NIMH forecast no precipitation is expected in the period until March 16

As of 09.03.2026, the amount of available stored volumes in the complex dams is 4939.8 million cubic meters, which represents 75.58% of their total volume.

At 100% full volume are the "Assenovets" and "Pchelina" dams, and with over 90% are "Srechenska Bara", "Hristo Smirnenski", "Kamchia", "Yasna Polyana", "Borovitsa", "Studena", "Aheloy", "Domlyan", "Topolnitsa", "Alexander Stamboliyski", "Krichim", and "Studen Kladenets".

The "Assenovets" and the "Pchelina" dams overflowed without danger to the population and infrastructure in the area. Preventive releases to free up volume are being carried out at the "Trakiets" and "Koprinka" dams.

According to data from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), river levels in the country are stabilizing, with no significant changes expected in the coming days. Water quantities will be below the caution thresholds. According to the forecast for the period from March 9 to 16, no precipitation or adverse weather conditions are expected.

The Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) reminds local authorities to implement the measures provided for in the Flood Risk Management Plans 2022-2027 and to monitor current hydrometeorological information and forecasts for hazardous phenomena published on the official website of the ministry.

The MOEW manages water resources in 52 significant and complex dams. You can find more about this in the Daily Bulletin on the State of Waters on the website of the ministry.
