For the second year, the Ministry of Environment and Water launched the student competition for high academic achievements “Green Support for a Sustainable Future 2022”. It is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment and Water as part of the initiatives from the European Commission’s campaign “European Mobility Week”. The competition is organized by the Executive Agency for Environment, which announced its second edition for the academic year 2022/2023.

“Better Connections” is this year’s essay topic, on which the participants will compete. The European Mobility Week is organized under the same motto. According to the rules, applicants must submit a three- to five-page essay or short paper.

The purpose of the competition is to support the continuity from theory into practice and the inclusion of young people who have chosen to study at higher education institutions related to environmental protection and sustainable development. The challenges of a sustainable future on a global scale and in Bulgaria require key decisions and active steps by well-educated and prepared “green” leaders. Young specialists should be supported in their development in order to have a successful career in this responsible career path.

The European Mobility Week campaign encourages local authorities to introduce and support sustainable transport measures and is an opportunity to improve air quality in cities and provide effective environmental solutions for the urban environment. Based on this idea, the competition encourages students to present an original, coherent, and scientifically based approach to mastering the challenges of the urban environment and mobility in their essays.

The application deadline is October 31, 2022 included. The prize for the winner is an annual financial support in the amount of 2 970 BGN provided by the Enterprise for Management of Environmental Protection Activities. The committee for the selection of the winner includes representatives from the MOEW, the Executive Agency for Environment, and the Enterprise.
