The Minister of Environment and Water Asen Lichev informed by letter the Road Infrastructure Agency that in respect to two notifications it submitted concerning investment proposals for road repair and rehabilitation there is no grounds to require an environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure or to assess the need for an EIA.

One of the investment proposal concerns preventive repair of the national road III-607 “detour Kalofer - Apriltsi - Velchevo - (Oreshak - Debnevo)” in order to ensure traffic safety and passenger comfort. It will be carried out on the territory of the town of Apriltsi, Municipality of Apriltsi, District of Lovech. As some of the activities fall within the boundaries of the Central Balkan National Park, the MOEW sets the following conditions for their implementation: repair works should not enlarge the scope of the existing road route; tree and bush vegetation should not be damaged; asphalt overlay should not be laid for the segment of the road within the boundaries of the park; the director of the Central Balkan National Park should be notified prior to the start of activities in order to clarify information about the individuals who will perform them, the schedule for their performance, access to the site, etc. The control over the implementation of the repair works is delegated to the Director of the Central Balkan National Park. Taking into account the location of the planned activities, their implementation does not affect natural habitats and habitats of species subject to protection under the Natura 2000 network.

The investment proposal for rehabilitation of Road III - 811 “II - 81 - Bogyovtsi - Slivnitsa - Rakita - Breznik - Pali Lula” is for the restoration of the qualities of the overlay to ensure safe traffic conditions and good road drainage. The investment intention is on the territory of Sofia and Pernik districts. The implementation will utilize the existing road infrastructure, without construction of a new one. The foreseen activities are admissible under the regimes of protected areas “Dragoman” and “Rayanovtsi”, i.e. their implementation does not create the possibility for negative impact on protected areas of the national ecological network.
